Salem VA St Patricks Dinner 2010 : This page is for information pertaining to the 2010 Salem VA St Patrick's Dinner. March 17th 2010.
Please use the comment form below to sign up and let me know if you will be volunteering to help out.

Setup starts at 3PM. I will need help getting the tables and service pieces setup. John and Doc will be doing the cooking. The kitchen is tiny so help in the kitchen will be very limited.

We need pushers to arrive around 5PM to go get the patients from the wards.

Dinner is served at 6PM
All food servers need to wear gloves. They will be provided. Try to serve the wheel chair bound vets first. Once the ambulatory vets have been served, grab a plate and seat your self with the Vets. They really need someone to talk to. You will learn a lot from these guys.

Menu:

All food is being provided. No need for you to bring anything.

Corned Beef
Steamed Cabbage
Boiled Potatoes
Corn Bread
Tea
Coffee
Lemonade
Desserts

Entertainment starts shortly after dinner provided by members of the Virginia Highlands Pipes and Drums. We may not have dancers this year as Anne and Charlene are not available. If anyone else would like to volunteer, it would be appreciated. The Vets love watching the dancers.

Notes and guidelines:

All volunteers need to sign in when they arrive. The VA Volunteer Services Office gets funded based on the number of hours we put in. The sign up sheet will be on the stage.

This is Federal property. All weapons are prohibited. If you bring a Sgian Dubh, please do not remove it from your kilt hose. Please leave Dirks and Swords at home. Knives used for cooking must be kept in the kitchen. If something must be cut, please bring to the kitchen to do it.

Some of these vets are there for Drug and Alcohol rehab. We would request that you not bring flasks.

Photography of patients is prohibited. You can take photos of the volunteers. But be careful about the patients. Because some of the vets are in rehab, they do not want photos published. The photos published on this site are previewed by Volunteer Services before release to the public.

Special notes for food prep: No deserts containing Alcohol or Poppy seeds.
